Truck loaded with gas cylinders explodes at filling station

A gas explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State has caused extensive damage to six vehicles, according to police authorities.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the state police spokesman, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday.

He reported that the explosion occurred on Nov. 15 and was first detected by police operatives at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, who immediately heard a loud blast.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia road.

“The joint team swiftly deployed preventive measures to protect lives and minimise property damage, successfully quenching the fire.

“Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost,” he said.

The police also indicated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

“Further updates on the findings will be shared as the investigation continues,” Sadiq-Aliyu added.
