Doctor injects girlfriend with anaesthetic 20 times, resulting in her death

A Chinese doctor has faced strong online criticism after he administered over 1,300 mg of propofol, the anaesthetic, in more than 20 doses to his girlfriend, who suffered from insomnia, leading to her death.

The doctor, surnamed Qu, an anesthesiologist in Jiajiang county, gave the doses over six hours on March 6, 2024.

After Chen, his girlfriend, died, Qu confessed and was later sentenced to two and a half years for negligent homicide.

However, his sentence was criticized for leniency, especially after he compensated the victim’s family and received forgiveness.

Many online users questioned whether the punishment was too light given the circumstances, with some calling the act murder rather than negligence.
