NECO accredits more foreign schools for SSCE, BECE

In a bid to expand its global reach and improve educational opportunities worldwide, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited additional foreign schools to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The newly accredited schools are located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea, joining the existing foreign institutions already authorized to conduct NECO examinations.

A statement from NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, shared on Saturday, highlighted that an accreditation team visited the schools for a thorough assessment of their facilities, which included classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, and sports facilities, to determine their suitability for administering the exams.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, the schools were granted full accreditation for both the SSCE and BECE.

NECO’s expansion into foreign schools is seen as a significant step towards offering quality education and exams beyond Nigeria’s borders. With this continued growth, NECO aims to become a leading examination body in Africa, offering students globally the opportunity to benefit from its expertise and contribute to the advancement of education across the continent and beyond.

This expansion includes ongoing NECO SSCE External examinations in Diffa, Niger Republic, where the UNHCR School has become the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria. In addition to Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea, NECO examinations are also available in Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Saudi Arabia.
