Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello surrenders to EFCC again
There are strong indications that Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, has once again responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding alleged misappropriation of funds.
Sources close to the EFCC revealed that Bello attended the agency’s office on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his lawyers, rather than by the current Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo.
This development comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed the case challenging the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency.
It was also confirmed that the former Governor personally drove himself to the EFCC office in a black Hilux, accompanied by his lawyers.
Although there were speculations last week about his possible visit to the EFCC, the former governor’s media aides did not respond to inquiries regarding the matter.
During the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC requested an adjournment to November 27 in the new case it filed against Bello, citing that the 30-day window for the summons issued earlier was still ongoing.
The EFCC also granted administrative bail to his co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, while asking the court for an extension of time for the first defendant (Bello) to appear.
