Warehouse housing FG’s repackaged rice palliatives uncovered
The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission has uncovered a warehouse allegedly used for rebagging rice palliatives meant for the less privileged.
The operation, led by the commission’s chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji, took place at a warehouse located on Hotoro Western Bye-pass. Magaji revealed that around 28 trucks of rice palliatives, provided by the Federal Government, were suspected to have been diverted for repackaging and sale in the open market.
Magaji revealed that a significant case of mismanagement and diversion of public resources has been uncovered. “These palliatives were intended for the poor and vulnerable, but regrettably, some individuals are exploiting the suffering of the people for personal gain,” he said.
He also confirmed that one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the case and assured that investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute all those involved.
Magaji assured that the commission will thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible for this act of corruption are held accountable. “We are also working diligently to recover the palliatives and ensure they are properly distributed to those who were meant to receive them,” he stated.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among residents, who have condemned the misuse of resources that were intended for the most vulnerable in society.
“This is both shameful and heartless. While people are struggling, some individuals are stealing from the poor. We applaud the anti-graft agency for taking quick action,” said Garba Isah, a community leader in Hotoro.
The commission has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to government relief materials. Meanwhile, Magaji reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combatting corruption in all its forms, assuring transparency and accountability in the handling of the case.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges in ensuring aid reaches those it’s intended for and underscores the urgent need for stronger measures to prevent the diversion of public resources.
