Amorim puts faith in Mount to turn around Man Utd career
Ruben Amorim, the newly appointed manager of Manchester United, has expressed strong belief in the potential of midfielder Mason Mount, who has struggled with injuries since his £55 million transfer from Chelsea in July 2023.
Despite his limited appearances, Mount, 25, is determined to succeed at Old Trafford, having made only 28 appearances so far, scoring one goal.
In an encouraging statement following Mount’s first start since August in United’s 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday, Amorim praised the England international’s work ethic and dedication.
“First thing is he is working really hard,” Amorim said. “He wants this really badly, and that is the most important thing. I think he has proven to all of you that he is a talented player. He was a European champion with Chelsea, so we believe a lot in him.”
Mount’s fitness remains a key factor in his progress, with Amorim emphasizing that all players need to stay fit and improve to help the team succeed.

The Portuguese coach, who replaced Erik ten Hag earlier this month, has been adapting quickly to the demanding fixture schedule. He noted that instead of lengthy video sessions, he prefers to engage players with brief tactical walkthroughs and lighter activities to maintain focus.
United, currently 12th in the Premier League after a tough start to the season, are aiming for a better performance in their upcoming match against Everton.
Amorim hopes to see improvement and a stronger showing from his team, focusing on better possession and tactical play despite limited training time.
As the club moves forward under Amorim’s guidance, all eyes will be on Mount to see if he can overcome his injury setbacks and fulfill the promise that made him a marquee signing for Manchester United.
