Angry youths set suspected phone thieves ablaze
Two suspected phone thieves met a grim fate as they were burnt alive by an angry mob on Friday in the Kabong community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the suspects had been terrorising residents, attacking passersby with weapons, and snatching phones and valuables. While some of the assailants escaped, two were caught and set ablaze by onlookers.
A local resident, Mathew Ignatius, described the harrowing incident:
“It happened this morning. These individuals, suspected to be cultists, have been robbing the community repeatedly. Today, people mustered the courage to chase them down. They caught two of them and burnt them, while others fled.”
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred.
The police reported receiving a distress call around 9:20 a.m. about cult members attempting to rob residents in Jenta Adamu, Jos North LGA.

In response, officers were deployed to the scene, where they discovered the charred remains of the two suspects.
“While the police strongly oppose the activities of armed robbers and cultists, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, equally condemns the act of jungle justice. Citizens are urged to hand over suspects to security agencies to ensure justice is served through legal channels.”
Two locally made pistols were recovered at the scene, and the police have launched an investigation into the case. The Commissioner warned that those engaging in jungle justice would face prosecution.
Residents were urged to remain calm as security measures have been strengthened to prevent further incidents in the area.
