Customs in Lagos launch manhunt as driver, conductor flee, abandon bus with rifles

The Nigeria Customs Service has commenced manhunt for a bus driver and his conductor who fled and left behind some firearms in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the Customs Officers had tracked the bus from Aba, Abia state, where the ammunition were loaded into the vehicle before it left for Lagos.

Speaking on Wednesday, while addressing newsmen, Comptroller Kola Oladeji, Controller in charge of the Federal Operations Unit, disclosed that officers of the unit, were informed about some dangerous weapons from the Eastern part of the country to South West.

He said: “My officers were able to monitor the movement from Aba to Shagamu interchange where we thought the weapons would be offloaded.

“Interestingly, the driver proceeded to Lagos and on getting to Oshodi, they noticed that they were being tracked.

“They drove the bus into a side street where the driver and his conductor fled, leaving behind the items.

“My men did not fire a single shot at the fleeing driver and his conductor to avoid any casually.

“The bus has since been moved to Ikeja. We have commenced manhunt for the suspects.”
