Equatorial Guinea to arraign ex-anti-corruption chief over sex tape scandal

The Government of Equatorial Guinea has filed a lawsuit against Baltasar Engonga, former Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, over alleged misconduct linked to a sex tape scandal.

The government condemned his actions as a violation of the ethical and moral values of Equatorial Guinean society.

In a public statement, Minister of Information Jerónimo Osa Osa announced that the State Attorney General’s Office would conduct a thorough investigation into Engonga’s conduct.

According to Ahora EG, several videos surfaced online showing Baltasar Ebang Engonga engaging in sexual activities with multiple women, some of whom are married.

In response, the Equatorial Guinean government condemned these actions as violations of the country’s “ethical and moral values.”

An official statement on Friday confirmed that legal proceedings are being initiated against Engonga and his accomplices through the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of holding them accountable under the law.

“In light of these serious events, which severely undermine family and social cohesion, and considering the negative impact this situation has on the reputation of our country, the government, through the Public Prosecutor’s Office, has commenced a thorough investigation to establish responsibilities at the administrative, civil, and criminal levels, given the potential public health implications,” reported the government spokesperson.

The government also stated that it would assess several factors, including the distinction between personal and private matters, consent (both explicit and implicit), privacy violations, harm to individuals’ honor and reputation, and the rights of those affected, including the state itself.
