FG arraigns 76 #EndBadGovernance protesters on 10-count charges
Seventy-six #EndBadGovernance protesters have been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja, facing a ten-count charge, including alleged treason, conspiracy, and intent to destabilise Nigeria.
These charges, based on sections 96 and 97 of the Penal Code Act, carry significant penalties, underscoring the gravity of the accusations.
The arraignment, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, revealed a distressing picture of the detainees’ health. Many protesters, primarily minors, appeared visibly malnourished, with several unable to stand during the proceedings.
In a particularly heart-wrenching moment, four detainees, too weak to stand, had to be rushed out of the courtroom for assistance. As their names were called and charges read, some writhed in pain on the floor, amplifying concerns about their treatment in custody.
The protests that led to these arrests occurred nationwide from August 1 to 10, sparked by economic hardship that saw Nigerians take to the streets to voice their grievances.
