Indecent Behaviour: Oyo Assembly suspends LG Chairman, Olusola Oluokun, over viral video
The Oyo State House of Assembly has announced the immediate suspension of the Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government Area, Mr Olusola Oluokun, following allegations of gross misconduct linked to a viral video.
The suspension was moved by Mr Akintunde Olajide, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, during Thursday’s plenary session.
In the video circulating on social media, Oluokun is reportedly seen partially unclothed, eating, and engaging in what some have described as “questionable behaviour.”
He is heard praising his political godmother while openly cursing her perceived enemies. According to the Assembly, this conduct has raised serious concerns about the decorum expected from public officers.
Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin stated that the suspension was necessary to uphold accountability and cautioned other local government chairmen against abuses of power.
He emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to establishing a standard of conduct befitting the dignity of public office, particularly with the increasing call for local government autonomy.

Some members of the Assembly, including Mr Rahman Olorunpoto and Mr Gbenga Oyekola, urged the House to consider a lesser punishment, suggesting the chairman simply be cautioned. However, the majority of lawmakers argued that the suspension should serve as a deterrent against reckless conduct among public officials.
As part of the suspension directive, Mr Oluokun is required to hand over his responsibilities to his vice chairman while the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters conducts a thorough investigation. The findings of this investigation will be presented to the Assembly in due course.
