Man City faces injury ‘Emergency’ – Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described the club’s current injury situation as an “emergency” ahead of their upcoming match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The team is grappling with a significant injury list, having started Wednesday’s League Cup tie against Tottenham without six first-team players, including Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jack Grealish.

Adding to the woes, defender Manuel Akanji sustained a calf injury during the warm-up, and forward Savinho had to be stretchered off with a swollen ankle.

Following a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham, Guardiola noted that he had only 13 senior players available, resulting in a number of academy graduates featuring in the match.

In his pre-match press conference, Guardiola expressed concern about the squad’s depth, stating, “We have a lot of injuries in certain departments, but it is what it is. I am pretty sure, like I have said many times, ‘Guys, try not to feel sorry for ourselves.’”

The manager confirmed that the current crisis has forced him to rely on young academy players, saying, “We are using them because we are in an emergency in certain positions. Not ideal, but when the situation demands, we don’t have another option.”

Despite the injury crisis, Guardiola is not inclined to seek reinforcements in the January transfer window, expecting to have most of his squad fit by then, except for long-term injured player Rodri. He stated, “When we are all together, the squad is enough. It is complete. It is top.”

Guardiola also welcomed Ruben Amorim, the newly appointed manager of Manchester United, ahead of their Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon next week.
