Yemen targets Israel’s Nevatim airbase with Palestine-2 missile

The Armed Forces of Yemen’s Sanaa government launched a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile on 8 November, targeting Israel’s Nevatim airbase in the Negev desert. According to an official statement from the Yemeni military, the operation successfully struck its target as part of what it described as a “qualitative military operation.”

Additionally, Yemeni forces announced the downing of an American MQ-9 aircraft conducting missions over Al-Jawf Governorate at dawn on the same day. This marks the twelfth MQ-9 drone shot down by the Yemeni army, each drone valued at approximately $30 million.

The Yemeni Armed Forces stated their operations would persist until hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon cease, and the blockade on Gaza is lifted. Despite Israeli claims of intercepting the missile, the Yemeni military asserts the strike was effective.

Sanaa’s forces, which include the Ansarallah movement, have intensified their targeting of Israeli-linked vessels and shipping routes, remaining undeterred by recent US strikes on Yemeni territory. Previous missile attacks have included targeting Israeli bases, such as an earlier operation on 22 October, which struck the Tel Aviv area.

The targeted Nevatim airbase had previously suffered damage from Iranian missile strikes on 1 October during Operation True Promise-2, launched in response to the assassination of leaders from Hamas and Hezbollah. Satellite images reportedly confirmed significant damage from that strike.

Amid rising tensions, Tel Aviv and Washington remain on high alert due to Iran’s warnings of a retaliatory strike, with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei referring to a forthcoming response as “tooth-crushing.”
