Akpabio commits to NASS support for sustainable energy devt

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has pledged that the National Assembly, under his leadership, will continue to foster an environment conducive to investment in sustainable energy projects.

Akpabio made this statement at the 8th edition of the Energy Summit, organized by Solewant Group of Companies in Rivers State. The theme of the event was “Pioneering Technology and Innovation for Transition to Sustainable Energy Development in Africa.”

The Senate President, represented by Senate Deputy Minority Whip Osita Ngwu, stated that the National Assembly will do everything in its power to support local entrepreneurs driving technological advancements.

He emphasized, “Africa stands at a crucial juncture as the world shifts toward sustainability. Our continent faces the dual challenge of addressing energy needs while transitioning to cleaner, more sustainable energy systems.”

“The theme of this summit is particularly relevant because it highlights the essential role of technology and innovation in this transformation towards a just energy transition.”

He further explained, “The path to sustainable energy development requires the creation of inclusive and equitable solutions. Africa is blessed with abundant renewable energy resources, including solar, hydro, and geothermal power. By harnessing advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, we can unlock these resources and ensure that energy systems are not only sustainable but also resilient.”

“As policymakers, we must continue to create an enabling environment for investment in sustainable energy projects, research and development, and support local entrepreneurs driving technological progress.”

He stressed that innovation will be crucial in prioritizing the needs of the people, creating jobs, empowering communities, and protecting the environment. “Technology can bridge the energy access gaps, particularly in rural areas, helping us meet the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

He also noted that achieving this goal requires collaboration. “We cannot succeed in isolation. Partnerships between government, the private sector, academia, development partners, and other stakeholders are vital. This summit serves as an example of the collaboration needed to foster meaningful dialogue and share best practices in scalable innovations.”

Ngwu concluded, “The transition to sustainable energy is now a necessity. By embracing technology and innovation, we can drive Africa’s industrialization, reduce carbon emissions, and secure a brighter, greener future for generations to come. Let this summit inspire bold ideas and actionable solutions that will position Africa at the forefront of sustainable energy development. Together, we can pioneer a future where no one is left behind.”
