Senate probes flight delays, cancellations, summons Keyamo
On Wednesday, the Senate directed its Committee on Aviation to summon the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The committee was also tasked with inviting the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, airline operators, and other relevant stakeholders to address the ongoing issue of frequent flight delays and cancellations.
The Committee on Aviation is to investigate the growing incidence of flight disruptions by airline operators.
This resolution followed a motion presented by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (Oyo, APC) during plenary, which emphasized the adverse effects of these disruptions on Nigeria’s socio-economic development and public trust in the aviation sector.

The investigation will focus on identifying the underlying causes of the ongoing disruptions and recommending sustainable solutions to enhance the reliability and efficiency of air travel in Nigeria.
In a related development, the Senate leadership has instructed its Committee on Finance to halt any further action on the proposed tax bill until after a high-level meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, announced the development during plenary, revealing that a special committee has been formed to address the contentious issues in the bill. A meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, December 5.
This decision comes after several discussions among lawmakers to resolve disagreements over key provisions in the proposed legislation. The contentious areas have led to debates among stakeholders in recent days.
Additionally, the Senate leadership announced plans to hold a special meeting at the National Assembly, which will be chaired by the Minority Leader, to resolve all areas of disagreement. The meeting aims to provide a platform for lawmakers to reconcile their positions and ensure the bill aligns with national priorities while addressing the concerns of stakeholders.
