Federal University of Education Zaria: A call to immortalise late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, CFR, LLD, FNTI, by Auwal Magaji Abubakar
I find it very important to call on all the stakeholders to consider renaming the newly upgraded Federal University of Education (FUE ZARIA) to SHEHU IDRIS UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION ZARIA, as an act of appreciation for the Emir’s long selfless service to Zazzau Emirate, Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
History will forever remember Shehu Idris as one of the longest-reigned & most peace-loving Emir who contributed very significantly to the development of education in Zazzau Emirate under which the FUE is situated.

It is worth noting that his initiative led to the establishment of the part-time NCE programme at the formerly FCE Zaria just to create a chance for the less privileged candidates to obtain NCE in a more convenient way and manner.
I’m therefore appealing to our distinguished Senators, the Honourable members House of Representatives, most especially the Right Honourable Speaker, Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, GCON, and all stakeholders to kindly consider this matter as an opportunity to recognise the legend and treat it with high degree of attention.
I didn’t see any better chance of appreciating his efforts than this golden opportunity of naming a fresh University of Education in honour of a veteran teacher, seasoned administrator, and a famous traditional ruler of high pedigree who served his father’s land for 45years, 7 months (1975 – 2020).
I strongly believe this gesture, if actualised, would serve as motivation to the younger generation.
In conclusion, may the Almighty Allah forgive and grant Alhaji Shehu Idris, CFR, jannatul firdausi.
