Yobe Literary Society joins townhall meeting to tackle ‘Gender-Based’ violence
The Yobe Literary Society (YLS) took part in a pivotal townhall meeting held on 26th November 2024 at MD Sahel Suite, Damaturu, as part of activities to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Themed “Tracing the Roots: Standing Against GBV,” the event was spearheaded by the Portrait of the Lake Child Initiative (PLCI) in partnership with GSF, CPWEI, SAHEI, C3HD, and FORGEMOV. It brought together activists, stakeholders, and organisations to explore the underlying causes of GBV and chart actionable steps toward eliminating it.

Key discussions revolved around empowering survivors, increasing public awareness, and fostering a culture of equality and respect. The Yobe Literary Society, known for its commitment to youth and community development, highlighted the role of storytelling and advocacy in driving social change and combating GBV.
Speaking at the event, YLS representatives commended PLCI and its partners for organising the impactful session and pledged ongoing support for initiatives promoting gender justice and equality.
The townhall was part of the global campaign to end violence against women and girls, emphasizing the need for collective action to build a safer, more inclusive society.
