German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to visit Nigeria on Tuesday
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to visit Nigeria from December 10 to December 12, 2024, for an official three-day trip, as announced in a press release by the German Embassy in Abuja on Monday.
During his visit, Steinmeier will hold discussions with key Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission. In Abuja, the German President will focus on strengthening bilateral relations with Nigerian officials.
Steinmeier will then travel to Lagos, where he will meet with business representatives, visit a start-up hub, and engage with notable figures from Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors. Among those he will meet are artist Dr. Nike Okundaye, known as Mama Nike of the Nike Art Gallery, and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka. He will also take a tour of Lagos to gain insights into the challenges and opportunities of urban development in Africa’s largest city.
The German President will be accompanied by a delegation of prominent German business leaders, including CEOs and board members from successful companies in sectors like IT, high-tech, and energy. This reflects the growing interest of German businesses in exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria.
The full visit aims to deepen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Germany and Nigeria.
