‘How father impregnated his biological daughter twice in Bauchi’ -First Lady

The wife of Bauchi State Governor, Dr. Aishatu Bala Mohammed, has lamented the alarming rise in sexual assault cases, citing the case of a father who impregnated his biological daughter twice.

Hajiya Aishatu made this statement in Bauchi while interacting with reporters about the efforts of the State Action Committee on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence to reduce sexual assault in the state.

She said what happened was that “the victim’s father is from Jigawa, her mother is from Bauchi. The mother was separated from the girl’s father. She went with her daughter after many years. Some children were teasing the girl that she did not have a father.

“The girl asked her mother to take her to her father, she took her to her father and the father said he wanted to remarry the mother. After they discussed and agreed, she left the daughter and left. After they remarried, she came back and the father started to molest the daughter by sleeping with her.

“One time the daughter told her mother the problem, the mother asked the father, and he confirmed her. The mother took her daughter to hospital after they were examined. Both the mother and the daughter were pregnant by him.

“The mother got high blood pressure. The mother gave birth, the daughter gave birth too, and the mother suffered a stroke, that is, (paralysis), until she died.

“After her death, the mother’s family chased the daughter away and took the mother’s baby. The daughter had no option. She went back to her father, because she had no other choice. The father continued molesting the girl.

“The father married another woman, the girl told her stepmother that her father was molesting her. She asked the father if what the girl said was true? The father said it was true. She left his house for him. After she left, the father continued until the girl was pregnant. She gave birth.

“The neighbors noticed that this girl was not married, they used to see her with two babies, and she was asked by the neighbors, and she told them that her father was responsible.

“They told the Hisbah Board of Kano, the Hisbah people arrested him and took him to court, and he was imprisoned for seven years. Since her mother is from Bauchi, the girl was brought back to Bauchi through the Ministry of Women’s affairs.”

Dr. Aisha said, “We are doing everything possible to change her situation. We want to take her to school because her situation is pathetic, we are taking care of her, and we have opened a bank account for her, we are giving her a salary. God willing, if she brings a husband, she will get married, and she will know what to buy with her money.”

The wife of the governor said “the state action committee recorded another pathetic story of another woman. We are with her now. It was her biological mother who brought men to sleep with her, to the extent that the mother went to the soothsayer to get medicine that would put the girl in such a way that she would be strong enough to have sex with a man five times a day.

“Now we are also keeping her, and we are trying to see that we give her special care and medicine so that she will come back to her senses, and she said that she is ready to get married. She has a suitor. We have sent for the young man, if God wills we will help her to marry him, since she is looking like she doesn’t want to go to school, it is not possible”.

Dr. Aisha said the situation has become broken because, in some families, there are cases where someone is pregnant by their sibling, or a father is involved with his daughter. While we frequently deal with issues of abuse, such as men beating their wives and causing harm, as well as many domestic violence cases that we often have to resolve, our office has become like a court. However, we ensure that all perpetrators of sexual assault are punished, and we have been successful in more than 80 cases.

She said, “as part of efforts to reduce the menace, we will use the media anytime we are prosecuting the perpetrators so that people will see their faces, we will put them to shame to serve as a deterrent.”
