Two siblings die after eating stolen cassava

Story by Victor Itodo ABUH

Two siblings, Loveth Charles, 9, and Solomon Charles, 6, tragically lost their lives after consuming a meal made with cassava in the Jiwa community of Abuja on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Their mother, Blessing Charles, and her youngest son, who also ate the meal, were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

A resident reported that they were discharged on Friday after receiving medical care.

According to a community source, the cassava was brought to the compound by a female farmer from the same hometown as the victim’s mother in Delta State.

The source explained, “The woman stored the cassava in their home, which is closer to her farm, without knowing that the family had taken some of the cassava and cooked it.”

The farmer, who processes cassava into “apu” for sale, has since been arrested by the police division. The remains of the deceased siblings have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.
