Bandits reject ₦3m ransom for release of abducted villagers

A group of bandits who abducted people from a Zamfara village have rejected a ransom of ₦3 million that was raised for the release of their captives.

According to reports, on December 8, 2024, the gang abducted 26 individuals from the Gidan-Goga district in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State during the early hours of the morning.

Abubakar Shehu, a local resident, recounted the traumatic experience, noting that among the abducted were his neighbor and his three daughters.

He added that a total of 26 people were abducted, including 19 females and six males.

“We raised ₦3m to offer to the bandits, but they rejected it,” Shehu lamented.

“When we informed their leader about the amount, he dismissed us, saying we were not serious, and then switched off his phone. Since then, we have been unable to reach him.”

“The bandits attacked our community on Sunday and took away 26 people, all of whom are my neighbours. They contacted us to demand payment for their release but did not specify the amount they wanted.” He added
