Taraba Governor mourns sister after fatal gunshot attack
Atsi, the younger sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, has died from gunshot wounds following a police accidental discharge.
Although her death has not been officially confirmed, sources told journalists that she passed away in an Abuja hospital where she had been receiving treatment after the incident.
On December 5, gunmen on motorcycles, believed to be kidnappers, attacked the convoy of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas’ mother along the Wukari-Kente road in Wukari Local Government Area. In the ensuing chaos, a police escort in the convoy fired at the gunmen who attempted to block the vehicle carrying the governor’s mother, Jummai Kefas. However, the bullet accidentally struck Atsi, 44, who was seated next to her mother.
Atsi was initially taken to the Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being flown to Abuja for further treatment. A source close to the Taraba State Government confirmed her death on Tuesday, though they requested anonymity as the news had not yet been made public.
