Story by Victor Itodo ABUH

The Nigerian Army has successfully prevented a major banditry attack in southern Taraba State through the proactive actions of troops from the 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

According to Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of the 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, intelligence reports revealed plans for a coordinated terrorist assault on villages in the area.

Acting swiftly on December 11, 2024, troops conducted intensive patrols, ambushes, and covert missions to disrupt the operation.

Their efforts led to the arrest of two suspected terrorists, Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, at Adu village. The suspects were intercepted while trying to enter the Chachanji market, allegedly intending to carry out kidnapping activities.

Seized during the operation were two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspects are now in custody as investigations continue to uncover the extent of their network.

Commending the troops, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised their professionalism and commitment. He assured Taraba residents that the Army remains determined to eradicate terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality.

“The Nigerian Army appreciates the support and cooperation of law-abiding citizens in providing credible intelligence,”
Brigadier Uwa added, emphasising the importance of community involvement in achieving lasting security.

The Army reaffirmed its resolve to maintain peace and protect lives in Taraba and across the nation.
