Tinubu assures every Nigerian child of protection, rights, privileges

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that every child will be protected and their rights and privileges upheld, safeguarding them from all forms of abuse and exploitation.

This assurance was conveyed by Dr. Sani Idris, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education, during his address at the second National Symposium on the Tsangaya system of education at Bayero University, Kano, on Sunday. The event, themed “Let Us Revive Our Tsangaya System of Education,” highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerian children.

Idris emphasized that the era of children begging on the streets of Nigeria is over, as the federal government works to provide every child with hope, security, and a brighter future. He stressed that children are the nation’s future and deserve an environment conducive to learning, growth, and emotional development.

In his remarks, Prof. Sagir Abbas, Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, thanked President Tinubu for fostering an environment that supports the welfare of Nigerians, especially children, women, and the vulnerable. He highlighted the importance of providing out-of-school children with essential needs like food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare, and urged communities to work together to support these children.

Prof. Abbas also condemned child begging, stating it goes against Islamic principles and called for the continuation of Tsangaya schools with a focus on good morals and a strong reading culture.

Prof. Ahmed Murtala, Director of the Centre for Quranic Studies, urged collaboration between governments and parents to better engage children in skills acquisition programs.

The Tsangaya school system, a centuries-old Islamic educational tradition, has historically been a source of moral and educational training, producing leaders, scholars, and professionals in various fields.
