Reps summon CDS, COAS over soldiers’ alleged illegal activities

The House of Representatives has called on the Chief of Defense Staff, Chief of Army Staff, and the commanding officer of the 177 Battalion to appear before lawmakers over the alleged unlawful arrest and detention of community leader Bello Badejo in Nasarawa State.

Hon. Mansur Soro, who raised the motion during Tuesday’s plenary, stated that Badejo was arrested on December 9, 2024, in Maliya town by the 177 Battalion without a prior court order or invitation.

He added that Badejo has not been arraigned after a week, which he described as a violation of fundamental human rights under Nigeria’s constitution.

The service chiefs are scheduled to appear before the House Committees on Army, Human Rights, and Justice on December 20, 2024.
