Water Shortage: Kano gov orders action in Warawa LG – Commissioner for Environment

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered immediate action to address severe water shortages in Talawa, Ba’awa, and Dinyari communities in Warawa Local Government Area.
This decision follows a report by Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, highlighting the dire situation. Governor Yusuf’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges, including water supply, aligns with his administration’s focus on enhancing the state’s development.
According to the Commissioner, he has already visited the communities to assess the situation and to commence the water supply project.
Hashim also disclosed that the state government has so far constructed over 120 solar-powered boreholes in various areas, including Falgore, Zangon Ranka, Sata, Hayyin Tagidadu, Kafin Agur, Kyallin Bula, Mariri and others.
“I assure the people of Kano State that the Kano State Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation is taking sustainable measures to ensure access to safe drinking water for the community.
“I reiterate the need for the community to maintain these boreholes that have been provided, because clean water prevents diseases, encourages school attendance for children, and reduces violence against women and children while they wander around in search of water,” he said.
He also explained that climate change and extreme heat are causing the drying up of streams and boreholes, which is putting the community, especially in rural areas, in dire straits.
