Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued an abducted victim in separate operations across Nasarawa and Benue states.
The operations, carried out as part of the military’s intelligence-driven offensive in the Joint Operations Area, resulted in the arrest of a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate and the rescue of a victim reportedly abducted by suspected terrorists.

The arrest followed the escape of one of the alleged kidnapping victims, 31-year-old Nehemiah Elisha, who reportedly spotted one of his suspected abductors at a market in Agyaragu.
Elisha immediately alerted troops stationed in the area, prompting the soldiers to respond and apprehend the suspect.
The Army said Lamu was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
In a separate operation on September 6, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XI, deployed at Torkula in Benue State, conducted a patrol along the Umene–Torkula Road.

During the operation, the troops rescued a kidnapped victim identified as Vincent Nyado, who was found tied and abandoned by the roadside.
Preliminary information indicated that Nyado had allegedly been abducted by suspected terrorists. The military said the suspects fled into nearby bushes after sighting the approaching troops, leaving the victim behind.
Nyado was subsequently secured by the troops, while efforts are ongoing to gather additional information and identify the fleeing suspects.
The military said Operation WHIRL STROKE remains committed to tackling violence across the North-Central region and Taraba State.
