3 customs officers kidnapped by Boko Haram in Geidam

Three customs officers were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents, even as foodstuffs and medicines were carted away in Geidam, Yobe State on Tuesday.

Idris Modu, a resident of Geidam on Wednesday said the attack by the Boko Haram insurgents left them empty as their food items were looted and their means of livelihoods taken away.

The insurgents, according to Idris came from the Maine Sorowa road in the northern part of the town and started shooting sporadically as everyone fled to avoid being killed.

The Tuesday’s evening attack took the intervention of both ground and air supports to stop the insurgents, but not without looting of foodstuff, burning of shops and carting away medical equipment and drugs from the hospital in the town.

Residents told newsmen that the insurgents kidnapped three officers of the Nigerian Customs Service, who had just been transferred from the Bauchi command.

The customs officers were said to be at their duty post around the outskirts of the town before they were kidnapped.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abdulkarim Dungus who confirmed the attack and kidnap of the customs personnel in an interview with journalists, however, maintained he was yet to clarify from the customs service.
