37 Miners: Abdulhamid Salisu Kabara replaces Aniviye as Niger NSCDC Commandant
Abdulhamid Salisu Kabara has been appointed the new Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command.
Kabara assumed office following the suspension of Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye over the death of 37 artisanal miners in the custody of the Command.
In a statement on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, said Kabara had taken over the leadership of the Command from Aniviye, who is currently under suspension in connection with the deaths.

Muti said Kabara assumed office at a particularly sensitive period for the Command, following the unfortunate deaths of some miners arrested in connection with suspected illegal mining activities in the state.
He said Commandant Kabara had expressed deep sadness over the losses and extended his heartfelt sympathy to the families of the deceased and everyone affected by the unfortunate incident.
He stressed that while the Corps remains committed to its statutory responsibilities of arrest, investigation, enforcement and the fight against illegal mining, the sanctity of human life must remain paramount.
“At a moment like this, beyond arrests, investigations, enforcement and the fight against illegal mining, we must remember one fundamental truth: every human life matters. The loss of any human life is painful, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are mourning at this difficult time,” he said.

He emphasised that the responsibility of protecting society and enforcing the law must go hand in hand with the responsibility to uphold the dignity, safety and welfare of persons in custody.
