7 soldiers die in Kano landmine explosion
A landmine explosion killed seven Nigerian soldiers in Kano state on Thursday, as their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) while en route to Kukawa.
The incident occurred in Bawarti village, a region where Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operates.
According to anti-jihadist militia sources, the soldiers’ vehicle was targeted by the IED, leading to the immediate deaths of all seven occupants.
Militia leader Babakura Kolo and another official, Ibrahim Liman, confirmed the details, attributing the attack to ISWAP, which remains a major jihadist faction in the Lake Chad area.

This attack highlights the ongoing conflict in northeastern Nigeria, where military operations against insurgents have persisted for over a decade.
The insurgency has claimed approximately 40,000 lives and displaced two million people.
Despite a recent reduction in conflict intensity, ISWAP and Boko Haram continue to conduct sporadic attacks on military convoys.
The Nigerian military has been engaged in a prolonged battle against these extremist groups, which frequently disrupt the relative calm in the region with ambushes and IED attacks.
