The eight year old Boko Haram crisis in Nigeria’s North East has been described as one of the most severe unrest in the world.
The United Nations Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator For Nigeria Mr Peter Lundberg said currently, 8.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in the worst affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.
Mr Lundberg disclosed this at a Press Conference in Maiduguri.
He said that the UN’s relationship with Nigeria remained intact.
” I’m very pleased to report that our relationship of collaboration and trust is intact. Responding to the humanitarian needs of millions of vulnerable people remains a top priority,” he said.
“The United Nations and other 60 Non Governmental Organisations are working to provide much needed food, shelter, safe water, laterines and medicine to the millions of displaced people who endured tremendous loss, and pain,” he added.

The UN and it’s partners are currently providing food to about 1.3 million people every month, among whom 1.2 million also receive seeds, tools and fertilizers for this year’s planting season.
” This year, so far, we have treated nearly two million people for health problems and rehabilitated over 60 health facilities that were destroyed in the conflict.
“Malnutrition, education, safe drinking water, access to latrines, all of these remain major priorities for us, and with the support of Government we are all working to improve the situation for the displaced and for those returning to their homes,” he added.
