At last let the awakening arise, a poem by Professor Ikechukwu Benjamin Ezeohagwu
I
At last
let the
awakening arise,
Out of wave,
of evils,
as slave,
then to crave
as genuine
human being,
becoming free
from the chains
of darkness.
II
No longer ask
What to gain
by giving up evils
and changing
for better!
It’s not a
business deal,
but ennoblement zeal,
So exert such
pure volition
for what is right and light
to become
ennobled as such,
that alone
is more
than reward.
III
Such resolution
brings light
in sight
out of initial blight,
All the treasures
of this world,
in their flimsy pleasures,
Cannot be compared
with eternal values
inherent in freedom
that lie in wisdom.
IV
Let the Light
of Truth
becomes that guide,
That lightens
and brightens
the path
to live by.
