Gov. Sani Bello establishes commission to halt grazing reserves encroachment

Niger State Government has established Baro Area Development Commission following the signing into law its establishment bill by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

This was made known in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mary Noel-Berje on Thursday and made available to newsmen.

The press release said, “The law is to establish Baro Area Development Commission and for Other Matters Connected Therewith 2020.

“The Commission came into operation on the 24th of September 2020 with an office in Baro while its head office is in Minna.

“According to the law, the commission shall have a member of the Governing Board to include the chairman, managing director and executive directors.

“The commission is a corporate body with perpetual succession and a common seal; which may sue and be sued in its corporate name”.

Similarly, Governor Sani Bello also assented to the Grazing Reserves Law NO.4 of 1965, The Grazing Reserves Law (declaration and publication of boundaries) Regulations of 2022.

The law is to stop the increasing cases of encroachment and other illegal and unauthorised activities in and around the reserves by persons who do not have the requisite permit to carry out such activities in the reserves.
