IGP’s wife empowers 80 officers’ wives in Nasarawa
Hajiya Hajara Alkali-Baba, National President, Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), has empowered 80 wives of police personnel in Nasarawa State.
Hajiya Alkali-Baba, who is the wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), gave the items on Sunday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, during her two-day working visit to the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the POWA National President called on the spouses of police officers to pray for their husbands to be able to tackle the security challenges confronting the country.
She said items distributed to the 80 officers’ wives, some of whom are widows of deceased personnel, includes sewing and grinding machines as well as rice and other food items.
She urged the women to continue to entrench peace in their homes to inspire their husbands to focus attention to their duties.
The POWA President stated that the programme follows her desire to empower police officers at the home fronts through their wives.
The IGP’s wife also promised to replicate a similar gesture in all the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In his remark, Adeyemi Soyemi, Commissioner of Police (CP) in Nasarawa State, commended the IGP for bringing new innovations towards addressing security challenges in the country.
The Commissioner explained that the empowerment programme would motivate officers and men of the command to redouble their efforts towards discharging their duties.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Grace Oga lauded the National President of POWA for the gesture and promised to make judicious use of the items.
