1 Killed, many injured as building collapses in Taraba

A one-storey building under construction has collapsed in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital killing one person, while others sustained injuries.
The building is situated opposite Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai, Jalingo.
Neptune Prime gathered that the building belongs to a renowned Jalingo business man Uche Obi, who sells building materials.
The collapsed structure trapped four people who were working under it killing one.
Speaking to newsmen, one of the survivors Adamu Mohammed said he was working inside the building and suddenly it collapsed trapping the four of them.
He said he used his hands to dug the ground to enable him come out of the collapsed building and he was rescued.
Adamu said one of his colleagues was already death as two others are still alive under the collapsed building.
He attributed the course of collapse of the storey building under construction to the use of substandard building materials.
When contacted, Director Town Planning, Ministry of Urban Development and Planning, Hamman Mbaye confirmed the incident.
The Director revealed that the collapsed one storey-building under construction was not approved by the ministry.
He explained that the owner of the storey building did not obtain permit from the ministry before embarking on the project.
Mbaye said necessary action will be taken against the owner of the collapsed building.
Efforts to reach the project manager proved abortive.
