Gov. Wike says pardon granted Nyame, Dariye unfair

Story from Ibraheem Hamza MUHAMMAD

Rivers State Governor Nyelsom Wike has described as unfair the granting of Presidential pardon to former Governors of Plateau and Taraba states by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Wike stated this in Minna, Niger state when addressing newsmen after a meeting with PDP delegates to the National convention of the party in Abuja.

The Governor, who described the action by President Muhammadu Buhari as purely political however, said it was a wrong decision.

He also described as unfortunate if when you said you are fighting corruption and those convicted for corruption charges are those granted pardon.

Mr Wike maintained that granting Presidential pardon to former Governors of Plateau, Joshua Dariye and Taraba, Jolly Nyame will only draw the country back as far as fighting corruption is concern.

He advised the PDP delegates from Niger state and Nigeria not to vote candidate from regional and sectional background but a Nigerian candidate that is fearless and courageous in moving the country forward.

Wike, however, assured them of his continued support to move the party in Niger state to the next level.

On PDP Presidential candidate, he said he will support any candidate that emerges, if it is based on equity, justice and fairness, he also expressed doubt that those talking about concensus candidate are not sincere.

Chairman of PDP in Niger state Barrister Tanko Beji thanked Governor Nyelsom Wike for his support to the party even without knowing them and that they reconcile all aggrieved party members.

He also advocated for a change in the reward system of PDP where loyalty should be rewarded and punishment be mated on erring members.
