According to a source who prefers anonymity, Chief Ayuba was kidnapped on Thursday morning when he went to check his farm outside the town.
The source said the news of Ayuba’s kidnap was broken in the town in the afternoon.
The source also said that the people have noticed the arrival of many armed men around the bushes in the town and surrounding towns.
He also said that the bandits don’t attack the people of the town because they are poor saying that last week, the bandits kidnapped a villager and demanded foodstuffs and beer for his ransom.
The source called on the government and security agencies to be proactive and intensify patrol as Muslims would ply the road on their way to different states for the Ramadan celebration.
He also disclosed that the bandits have reached out to the community leaders in Rijana with lists of what they need.
Some of the items on the list include gallons of petrol and engine oil as well as cigarettes.
“We have spoken with the village head and he is fine. However, the bandits have also asked us to provide them with recharge cards and threatened to kill him if we don’t,” said a member of the community.
The Kaduna State Police Command is yet to comment on the development when filing this report.
