Former military administrator dies in Abuja

The former military administrator of Rivers and Plateau states, Colonel Musa Sheikh Shehu (rtd), has died.

According to reports, Colonel Musa Sheikh Shehu, who hailed from Wurno Local Government in Sokoto State died in Abuja in the wee hours of Sunday and has been buried according to Islamic rites in Abuja on Sunday afternoon at Gudu cemetery after funeral prayers at Apo Legislative quarters.

The late Colonel became the military administrator of Rivers State from August 1996 to August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha and later the military administrator of Plateau State until the return to democracy in May 1999.

The late Colonel Shehu remained politically active after retirement in 1999.

In 2001, he was among former military administrators who formed the United Nigeria Development Forum (UNDF), a political pressure group.

In 2010, Shehu was Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), an influential group of Northern Nigerian leaders.

Neptune Prime gathered that as the administrator of Rivers State, the late Shehu was preceded by Colonel Dauda Kumo and succeeded by Sam Ewang from August 1996 to August 1998.

While as an administrator of Plateau State, he was preceded by Colonel Habibu Idris Shuaibu and succeeded by Governor Joshua Dariye in 1999.

In their condolences, retired military Officers: Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin, Air Vice Marshall Haruna Umar Muhammad and Colonel Abdallah prayed for the departed Colonel.

While associates of the late Colonel, Alhaji Musa Usman and Alhaji Abdullahi Ladan said the late Colonel was a gentleman who has assisted many people and prayed for the repose of his soul.

He is survived by a wife and children.
