Gen. Gowon loses older sister, Maryamu Dimka
Mrs Maryamu Lami Dimka, the older sister to former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon is dead.
She died on Wednesday, 3 August 2022.
Maryamu was the wife of the late Commissioner of Police, Mr S.K. Dimka, and is survived by children including Mrs Elizabeth Rimdans, one-time Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra and Bauchi States; Ms Margaret Dimka, Mr Philip Dimka, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other surviving relations are retired Flight Captain of the defunct Nigeria Airways, Captain Moses Gowon, and Dauda Gowon.
She was once a matron in the female hostel of Ahmadu Bello University in the 60s, and also an active member, and official of many organisations including The Nigeria Red Cross, Young Women’s Christian Association, Bible Translation, and The Bible Society. She was an active member of her Church choir group.
She was also a member of the Horticultural Society, a great gardener, and a lover of music.
