How controversial army officer, accomplice killed Yobe cleric during attempt to steal his car

As many Nigerians continue to reel over the shock of the killing of a popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami, on Friday in Gashua, Yobe State, details about the prime suspect in the murder have been unveiled.

According to a Premium Times report, Lance Corporal John Gabriel was recently redeployed to the checkpoint after he was accused of stealing N480,000 belonging to his Commanding Officer (CO), It was alleged that Gabriel stole N400,000 and N80,000 on different occasions.

As a result of the fact that he was not found guilty of the allegation of the missing money after investigations, his boss had no other option than to redeploy him to man checkpoints.

The report also added that the CO who was very sure that Gabriel knew something about the missing money, lay a curse on him that he would meet his end in no distant time. Gabriel was later arrested on Friday, the same day his CO was handing over to his successor.

It would be recalled that Sheikh Aisami was murdered by Gabriel who shot him three times in an attempt to steal his Mazda car on Friday after he gave him a lift at Nguru.

Gabriel was however arrested alongside his accomplice, Adamu Gideon, while they were trying to move away with the car.
