Flood kills three, destroy 1400 houses in Bauchi

About three people died and 1,400 houses were destroyed as a result of the flood which cut off the Zaki local government area from neighbouring communities in Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, speaking when he paid a visit and commiserated with the affected communities in the LGA, prayed to Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and called on the federal government to actualise the Kafin Zaki dam project for a lasting solution to the flooding issue affecting the communities every year.
The Governor donated two trailers of maize containing about 1200 bags and two vehicles for medical needs.
He directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Nuhu Zaki, to provide14 canoes to ease the movement of stranded residents in the area in the meantime.
Governor Bala directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) to take statistics of those affected.
He said that the Kafin Zaki dam project is the lasting solution that would end the perennial flooding that has led to untold suffering for people of the affected communities.
“What we need here is the actualisation of the Kafin Zaki dam that will arrest and harness the water resources that we have coming from the Dilimi River and Jamare River.”
The governor advised that technology be deployed to create and discharge surfaces dam to communities in Borno and Yobe states so that their areas will not be dry.
Recurring floods have ravaged communities in Bauchi and Jgawa states almost every year, destroying houses farmlands and several lives.
Flooding in parts of Bauchi North and Central areas have cut off the road linking several communities to neighbouring states and damaged hundreds of farmlands and produce.
