Senator Gaidam empowers 400 constituency youth, women
Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu
Senator Ibrahim Geidam, representing Yobe East Senatorial District, has facilitated the empowerment of about 400 youths and women in his constituency.
Geidam, represented by Alhaji Muhammed Kuwata, his Senior Legislative Aide, disclosed this at the inauguration of the programme on Saturday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
The programme was sponsored by the federal government through Border Community Development Agency (BCDA) in collaboration with Mulserve Limited and facilitated by the senator.
“Now in continuation of our annual conduct of skill acquisition programme, this year also, the senator finds it necessary to undertake another programme for the benefit of the people of his constituency.
“This time around, the programme, which is going to benefit more than 400 youths and women is going to be done on fish farming, shoe making, and bag making,” he said.
He added that the objective of the programme was to make the participants self-employed, who could also employ others in the future.
The senator appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of what is given to them rather than diverting items.
Also speaking, Mr Rotimi Tawo, the Assistant Planning Office (BCDA), explained the role of the agency.
He said the agency was there to monitor the selection, training and graduation processes of the beneficiaries to avert mismanagement of resources.
Alhaji Karama Kau, one of the beneficiaries, described the gesture as timely and of immense importance to their lives.
He, therefore enjoined co-beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity maximally.
