Frankfurt stun Sporting Lisbon to qualify alongside Napoli, Liverpool, others

It was a dramatic Tuesday night in the final Group E match between Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt as the Portuguese who needed a point to qualify for the next round allowed the Germans to take their place in a 1-2 defeat at the Estádio José Alvalade in Portugal.

Lisbon who needed just a point to qualify managed to find the back of the net six minutes before the half time.

The hungry German side, Frankfurt who are seeking for a maximum three points took advantage of the penalty awarded to them to level the game in the 62nd minute courtesy Daichi Kamada.

The intensity of the game increased seeing Lisbon gradually losing possession to Frankfurt and they capitalized on it to double the lead after 72 minutes of action with Kolo Muani finding the back of the net for the Germans.

Tottenham Hotspur

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-1 victory over Olympique Marseille in France to qualify.

Liverpool

Elsewhere, Napoli despite a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield qualified after sharing 15 points each with the Reds in Group A.

Bayern Munich

Also, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan scaled through to the next round after the encounter ended 2-0 in favour of Munich.

Actions return on Wednesday for matches in Group E, F, G and H where Chelsea will square up against Dinamo Zagreb as well as defending champions, Real Madrid do battle with Celtic for the qualification slots.
