Vandal electrocuted while trying to steal high-tension cable in Abuja

An electricity vandal has sustained severe burns while trying to steal a high-tension wire in the Utako area of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Legit. ng, the incident happened on Saturday night when the middle-aged man, identified as Ezekiel, tried to vandalize a high-tension cable but was electrocuted in the process.

Hassan, an eyewitness, said they heard electrical sparks in the night and heard the scream of a man, when they came out to check, Ezekiel was found with severe burns on his body.

He said, “This early morning, a man known as Ezekiel has been rushed to the hospital while trying to steal a wire from the high tension belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, and was electrocuted in the process.

“We heard the sound of an electrical spark in the night and also heard the scream of the man. If not because we saw a plier and torchlight scattered on the ground, I would have thought he was there to commit suicide.

“But with those tools, he went there on a mission. The man was lucky he did not die, but he sustained multiple burn injuries,” he said.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident.

“Our men while on patrol came in contact with him; he had severe burns, and they rushed him to the Wuse General Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

He will definitely be prosecuted but we will wait till he attains full recovery. His tools are in our custody,” Adeh said.
