Naira Scarcity: ACF chieftain, Kwande appeals to JAMB to extend registration deadline

Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande, the immediate past chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF ), has appealed to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to extend its February 13 deadline for prospective candidates who are yet to register for the examination.

Kwande made the appeal in view of the current naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which has taken a toll on citizens.
Recall on January 31, 2023 the apex bank extended the deadline for the deposit of N200, N500 and N1,000 to February 10, 2023 and despite the extension Nigerians are finding it difficult to have access to their money at commercial banks across the country to carry out basic expenses.
It is on this that Kwande is appealing to the exam body to consider an extension of the deadline for registration.
He said, “It is known that many people are experiencing economic hardship due to delay in accessing liquid or solid cash from their banks after they have laboured either as salary earners or self employed.
“The difficulties people are experiencing due to the swap from old to new naira notes is known to all.
“And to those who are either orphans or youth learning skills and willing to write the examinations from their own savings amongst many factors.”
“As a father and grandfather, I am appealing to JAMB to have human feeling by extending the deadline for the closure of the sales of examination form for students who wants to write its matriculation examination due to many reasons.”
Alhaji Kwande who holds the traditional title of Baraden (Generalismo) of Lafia in Nasarawa State, also calls on President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly to intervene by alleviating the plight of the youths who are gifted and want to pursue a degree in Nigerian universities to contribute their quota in nation building.

The elder statesman also wants JAMB to make its examination valid for a period of three years instead of one year because of the economic downturn that is affecting the people.
