Explosion at illegal oil tapping point kills many in Rivers

An early morning explosion on Friday in Rumuekpe  Emeoha Local Government Area of Rivers State has burnt many people to ashes including women, children, and vehicles.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occurred at about 2a.m at a crude oil tapping point.

The Public Public Relations Officer in Rivers, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident in Port Harcourt, said the casualty figure is yet to be ascertained.

”I have called the DPO and he said he would go around with his patrol team and get back to me. Just wait and let me get the details,” she said.

According to reports, the explosion occurred as a bus loaded with some siphoned crude went up in flames, as it was leaving the spot for an illegal refinery in the area.
