Yobe gov’t reviews working hours of tricycle operators

Following noticeable improvement in the security situation, the Yobe State Government has reviewed the working hours of commercial Tricycle operators, popularly called Keke, across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

This was contained in a statement with reference number SAS/OPS/3/VOLV dated 3rd March 2023 signed by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the Special Adviser on security affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni.

According to the statement, “The Yobe State Government undertook a review of the security situation across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

“The government noted the noticeable improvement in the security situation across the entire state. Sequel to which, the government observed with concern the hardship being experienced by commuters due to the current 6:00 PM time limit for the operation of commercial tricycles (KEKE NAPEP)”.

“Consequently, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, has approved an upward review of the operating hours for the commercial tricycle (KEKE NAPEP) riders.

“This approval was granted cognisant of the improvement in the security situation and the need to ease the difficulties being experienced by commuters in the state”.

“Accordingly, I am directed to convey that the operating hours for commercial tricycle riders are now reviewed from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM daily with effect from Friday, 3rd March 2023.

“In view of this development, the Executive Governor of Yobe State enjoins all security agencies in the State to ensure compliance with this directive.

“Similarly, the leadership of the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS), Yobe State Chapter is requested to be cautious and give its maximum cooperation towards the implementation and compliance with this directive,” Abdulsalam said.
