AFCON U-20: Gambia knocks out 7th-time champions, Flying Eagles to qualify for first final
Seventh-time champions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been denied a place in the final after losing 0-1 to the Republic of Gambia in the second semi final of the tournament on Monday evening.

Gambia’s victory over the Eagles will be the first time the West African country would qualify for the final of the tournament after two appearances in 2007 and 2023.
The Flying Eagles kicked off with high hopes after beating Uganda on Thursday by a lone goal but the Ladan Boso boys failed to replicate their sterling performances on Monday evening allowing the Young Scorpions to capitalise on their chances.
The Gambia were able to hold on to their lead after finding the back of the net seven minutes to kick off courtesy, Adama Bojang.
The Eagles were presented a golden opportunity to level the game after the Gambian goalkeeper slightly held touched the heel of Ahmed Abdullahi but unfortunately he missed the shot which hit the far left of the post.
Earlier on, Senegal beat Tunisia 3-0 to book their place in the final against Gambia on Saturday.
The Eagles will be returning to action against Tunisia on Friday for the third place.
