The Gombe State government has planned to upgrade and modernize some selected schools across the three senatorial zones and make them standard so as to compete favorably with others across the country in terms of standard, facilities, teaching, and learning.

The State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya stated this during an unscheduled visit to assess progress and level of work that his administration awarded a few months ago at Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work on the structures undergoing renovation and promised to ensure that the school gets all the required modern educational facilities. Governor Yahaya promised to restore the famous Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo to its past glory.

He said, “Despite the meager resources at our disposal, our administration will ensure that some selected schools across the three senatorial zones in the state are upgraded to the required standard.

“I recently declared a state of emergency in education with a view to addressing the challenges in the sector as well as the rots and infrastructural decay in our schools, bequeathed to us by the immediate past administration. You can all see for yourselves we are matching our words with actions.”

The Governor stated further saying: “I am therefore giving you my words that this administration will do its part in fixing this school and the community shall also complement government’s effort by collaborating with the school’s officials in protecting the infrastructures.

“I ask you to imbibe maintenance culture by taking ownership and protecting public property in your respective communities”.

It will be recalled that the Governor had recently directed the state Ministry of Education to commence renovation of dilapidated structures at the Government Secondary School Kaltungo and other schools, which he met in total decay and appalling conditions on assumption of office.

Governor Yahaya also paid an unscheduled visit to Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Dadinkowa, lamented the state of the school’s infrastructure, blaming the previous administration in the state for the despicable condition of the learning center.

He described the environment as unconducive for learning. He, however, pledges to take prompt action to revive the school to a model one with modern educational facilities that can compete favorably with its counterparts across the states of the federation.
