INEC assures of free, credible supplementary election in Adamawa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State has assured free, fair and credible re-run governorship and State Assembly elections in 69 polling units of the state.
Mr Hudu Ari, Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, gave the assurance at the stakeholders meeting ahead of Saturday, April 15 re-run elections in Yola.
INEC declared the governorship election in Adamawa State inconclusive two days after voters cast their votes.

The commission said it cannot announce any winner among the two leading gubernatorial candidates due to the margin of votes and needs to commence results verification.
Ari said that the re-run election for the governorship would take place in 69 polling units.
“In our commitment to transparency, the commission is making available through the comprehensive list of polling units by their names code numbers, locations by local government and registration areas otherwise known as the delimitations.
“With this development, the number of the PUs where the governorship supplementary election will hold is 69, the total of registered voters is 44,785 while PVCs collected in these PUs is 36,935 across the 20 LGAs of the state”, he said.
Ari further said that four state constituencies were also involved which include; Girei, Gombi, Numan and Toungo.
He urged the leadership of political parties to ensure that only one agent accredited by the commission was at the PU and collation centres and to guide supporters for peaceful conduct.
He called on the relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone who is involved in violent conduct during the election.
The Adamawa Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, appreciated the REC for pointing out categorically the issue of party agents at the PUs and collation centres.
The CP who was represented by ACP operations, Shehu Umar, assured that security agencies are ready to ensure peace and security during and after the re-run elections in the state.
